"They were wicked tight first time I tried them on. I've never had a bad fitting pair of shoes from JC Penney. Luckily I have some shoe stretchers and after a few days of stretching, the first time I wore them they broke in remarkably fast and now fit great."
Pros very rugged, good cushioning, look great
Cons order this shoe in a half or full size larger for best fit

"Bought a pair, still in great shape, of this 642 style a couple of years ago and ordered this pair incase New Balance quits making it. The shoes are used almost daily on the local rails-to-trails site. Great comfort and traction. I always order New Balance shoes a half size larger than my foot size for a better fit."
Pros Good traction on rocky or wet surfaces.

"I've participated in Governor's computer program which encourages walking. Virtual walk from Mississippi to Lake Michigan for more than 1 year logging anywhere from 2 to 4 miles a day. I've worn out my first pair of NB and will start wearing the replacement at first of year."
